Mimram’s Ruby Anniversary
Mimram Quilters reached 40 years old in October and to mark this great milestone we held a Celebration event at the Welwyn Civic Centre on Sunday 22nd September. The idea behind this event was to demonstrate to the local community exactly what Mimram Quilters do and to share our skills with others both young and old to encourage them to try something new. As well as having some of our work on show, we ran a variety of demonstrations and have-a-go sessions. We also ran our popular refreshments stall as well as a tombola. We also focused on our charity work and made a £250 donation to our chosen local charity, the Danesbury Neurologcal centre and Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital.
The demonstrations included : applique, hand quilting, vintage machine quilting (and Applicut machine), English paper piecing (EPP), Sashiko, going round in circles, embroidery and free motion quilting.
In addition we set ourselves the Ruby Anniversary Challenge: to make something, up to the size of 16 inches square, on the theme of our 40th Anniversary.
